Delete #SOL22 16/22

A musical response to several hours of inbox tidying.
(to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”)

One the third day of March Break, my inbox called to me, “It’s time to delete some emails.’
12 million subscriptions
All kinds of updates
Old invitations
Attempts to sell things
Lots of premade lessons
Daily news roundups
Offers of translation

๐ŸŽถ Messages I’ll never return ๐ŸŽถ

Articles about teaching
Missed webinars
Well-intentioned sharing
And hundreds of unread emails.

I’ve spent several hours on this project (hours which I could have spent more productively elsewhere, but whatever), and I feel a wonderful sense of lightness. I’ve read a few good articles and gotten past the melancholy of blog posts I’ve missed. I’ve cleaned up three – THREE – email accounts. One will be at zero when I finish commenting on today’s blogs; one is at two; and one we won’t discuss. Just perfect for a rainy day in the middle of March Break.

  1. That was a fun, creative twist to ‘sing’ your list as I read it! I know that clean inbox feels AWESOME. Congratulations! I hope you have merrier things planned for the rest of break.

  2. Oh my goodness. This would take me days. Every once in a while I unsubscribe to things so I donโ€™t have to delete emails I never read. Somehow, my box always fills up. That must feel good to be at zero!

  3. When I got my new computer I decided not to only use the web based email programs on the actual web. One day I accidentally deleted every single email Iโ€™d ever saved. I just about had a heart attack, but then I felt a flood of relief. They were gone and I didnโ€™t have to sort through them!

  4. I completely sang along to this-I mean, how could I not? I’m impressed with this accomplishment, but I secretly wished you were doing something more fun on your vacation. At the same time, I find these kinds of tasks oh-so-rewarding, and I’m hoping it allowed you to have more fun later? The lightness is really worth everything. I’ll be visiting my mom on my Spring Break, so I am inspired to get to zero. Bravo!
