Two poems #SOL24 18/31

Two poems for today. First, a book spine poem created from the books I just checked out of the library based on recommendations from other bloggers so far this month. Sensing a theme? (I also got Thornhedge, but it didn’t fit the poem.) I love all the recommendations and ideas I get during March. Will I finish these all before they’re due? I doubt it, but I’m not sure if that’s really the point.

Second, a poem for my recently restless nights.

The middle-aged woman’s sleeping prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray that I won’t wake to pee.
If I should feel a sudden heat,
I pray that I won’t drench the sheets
And if I’m up throughout the night,
I pray my kids’ve turned out the lights.

Tomorrow I’m going to get my sh*# together and write earlier in the day.

  1. Amanda,

You are not alone in this middle age conundrum. It’s worse in old age, especially when you have a cold and cough as I do. The cough now dictates my bathroom trips left I cough from the south as well as the north. Isn’t it comforting to have books near even when you don’t get them read? That’s how I feel anyway.

  2. A night without getting up to pee is such a rarity! Usually if I get close to that, it’s like last night — slept until 20 minutes before my alarm and couldn’t hold it. SIGH!

  3. Such a great poem, I have got through that phase, it is definitely funnier in retrospect! I loved reading Tom Lake, she’s such a good writer, although I think the setting and what happens had me thinking, life is sooo different over there! Hope you get to read one or two!

  4. So tired of the night sweats! Having a bunch of cats snuggling under the blankets does NOT help. Love to see the book spine poem. Definitely a theme running throughout. The Swimmers was a DNF for me, not for any particular reason, just got absorbed in other things and it was due back at the library. I really liked A Swim in a Pond in the Rain.
